How long do vehicle wraps last?
Five to seven years is the honest working answer for a cast-vinyl wrap with a matched overlaminate in North Central Florida. What decides where you land in that range is mostly sunlight.
Sun is the clock
UV is what kills vinyl. Not rain, not mileage, not car washes. A van that lives in a garage overnight and works a shaded route will outlast an identical van parked west-facing in an open lot, and the difference is measured in years, not months.
Horizontal surfaces go first for the same reason. The hood and roof of a wrapped vehicle take the most direct sun and will fade or crack ahead of the doors. That is normal, and it is why partial wraps that leave the roof alone often still look sharp when a full wrap has started to tire on top.
Laminate is not optional here
An overlaminate is a clear layer over the printed vinyl. It absorbs UV, resists abrasion from washing, and stops the print itself taking the damage. Skipping it saves a little at quote and costs years of life.
In Florida specifically, an unlaminated printed wrap is a short-term graphic. Treat any quote that omits laminate as quoting a different product, not a cheaper version of the same one.
What you can control
Park in shade or indoors when the vehicle is idle. Hand wash with mild soap, or use a touchless bay. Avoid brush tunnels, which scuff the laminate and catch edges. Keep pressure washers away from seams and edges, because that is where lifting starts and once an edge lifts it keeps going.
Deal with damage early. A lifted corner re-secured this month is a small job; the same corner left through a summer becomes a panel replacement.
Knowing when it is done
Colours going chalky, especially reds and oranges. Fine cracking on the roof or hood. Edges curling on the door jambs. Once a wrap reaches that stage it also gets harder to remove, so the cheapest moment to replace it is slightly before it looks bad.
Removing a wrap at the right time is straightforward. Removing one that baked two extra summers means heat, adhesive remover and hours.
